Government Official Says MoD Looking at Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Staff Instructed to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense official has stated that the MoD is currently examining the possible security risks associated with Chinese-made cars, and personnel have been instructed to avoid discussing secret matters in all cars.

Safety Advice for Defence Staff

During a recently aired interview on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on reports that Ministry of Defence officials have been instructed not to discuss classified material while riding in Chinese cars.

The minister said that the ministry is “looking into” cars from China within its fleets, but noted that safety is a issue in all modern vehicles.

We have a collection of thousands of cars in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug MoD devices into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a classified classification in any kind of vehicle, due to the growing risks of surveillance that are present in every single automobile, to restrict those secret talks in secure locations. This is a prudent and sensible thing for everyone worried about security.

When it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to stop using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard replied: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Security Context

This revelation follows claims from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off buses and bring disruption to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly shining lasers at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “extremely risky” act by government representatives.

This broader defence situation highlights the importance of strong measures and caution in all areas of government operations, including vehicle use to communication habits.
